“creating is a journey toward an unknown destination: what I make is never finished, at most I have stopped making it.”

Discover the depth of emotion and story in the artworks of Albert-Jan van de Pol.

en route

For me, creating a work of art is like an endless journey with an unknown destination. I don't know where it will go, I follow what is needed, and that again and again. In essence, there is no end to it, except when the work of art has left my studio. As long as it is still there, I am on my way. You are welcome as a traveling companion on the projects I am currently on my way with.

on assignment - cmc

For the head office of a new client - CMC in Veenendaal - I will make 2 paintings. The first painting has as its theme the Bible text 1 Cor. 4:7: 'What do you have that you did not receive?' I will paint a naked baby that merges into a structure like a mountainside. The naked baby symbolizes the 1st gift that we all receive: a vulnerable life. The mountainside represents the ancient planet on which we all seek our life path. The design of the 2nd painting is still in development. Both paintings are made with a lot of history (layers) and structure.

WAR IN MY HEART

I want to work towards an exhibition in which I have chosen my 'Homesickness for Paradise' as the central theme. The Asher bird takes me on a beautiful night (see painting Judge Not) on a journey of discovery to show me how I can eat from the tree of life. In this painting, the bird takes me to a war zone to teach me an important first lesson.

CHAGALL MOZES

Although I never saw it in real life, I fell in love with this mosaic by Marc Chagall. It can be admired in Vence in La cathédrale de la Nativité-de-Marie de Vence, a beautiful medieval church in the south of France. I started in 2019 with the idea that it would be finished in 2024... blessed are the ignorant.
