The structure in this painting (the layering and the craquelé) depicts the brokenness of humanity and creation. I painted a country road near my home using this structure. The deep tracks of tractors are visible on the country lane. Running right through them is a depiction of the Descent from the Cross: Jesus has died and is being taken down. Jesus' body, too, is permeated with brokenness (layering and craquelé). The only place in the painting where this brokenness is not visible is the woolen tallit (the Jewish prayer shawl that I have attached to the painting). With this, I want to convey hope: no matter how great our brokenness as humanity or creation may be, for everyone, the life of prayer—the relationship and connection with God — remains a possibility to take refuge. There is a life emerging out of this brokenness that surrounds us. Hence the title 'Tomorrow is Pesach'.
