Behind Us Only Grey is the third painting in the series I'm creating for a future exhibition about the two trees in Paradise. In this exhibition, the Asher bird takes me on a journey to teach me what it means to follow the Life in my heart. He calls this following of Life in my heart the path of the tree of life. In this painting, he takes me to a winter landscape and an ancient white river. A bench floats above the white river. In the sky above, a colorful tree of life appears, a spring in the midst of winter. The bird instructs me to scatter bread upwards as bird food. Miraculously, the bread flutters naturally from my hand to the birds in the tree. True peace is not a colorless ending, but an act of spring in winter, an act of sharing (a gesture of raising bread) and an act of receiving freely (the birds receiving the bread). A soul knows peace when it dares to move, while the gray doesn't completely disappear...

The painting is inspired by the beautiful final lines of the poem "Peace" by Judith Herzberg (From: Wat zij wilde schilderen):
"We scatter bread aloft like bird food and arrive at the stirring of our soul.”

Behind Us Only Grey is painted on a 150x200 cm linen canvas. The painting is framed and ready to hang upon receipt. It is signed on the painting and a certificate of authenticity will be included.
